This shelf was a big surprise. It works ideally with my dryer and turned out to be extremely sturdy yet flexible enough to fit a multitude of applications. It's large and strong enough to easily support a very large container of detergent, bleach and any other laundry items. What a great way to utilize otherwise wasted space.
It's design leads me to believe that it may not work with all washer/dryers. My dryer has as bit of a lip at the top that securely supports the front 'hooks' yet my washer has more of a slope that may not provide as much support.
Overall i think it is a great product especially for the price!

This shelf is wonderful! It allows one to store all the things one would usually use most frequently close at hand! Personally, mine contains the medium size bottle of liquid Tide, the large bottle of Downy (fabric softener), a large bottle of Clorox, the extra large box of Bounce, a Bleach Pen, another smaller bottle of Clorox and a lingere bag. It definantly holds up to the challege of storing heavy items!!
In my opinion, it's right up there with sliced bread!

I ordered the Household Essentials 5100 Over Washer Storage Shelf as part of a recent reorganizing frenzy in my laundry room. For this great price, I was sure I was going to get some additional storage space, which is always welcome.
The shelf went together easily, the directions are simple. The support brackets that go behind the washer/dryer don't bend as easily as the directions make it sound like they will, but they did bend enough to get it set up alright.
Unfortunately, I had not noticed that right behind my washing machine, right where this shelf would rest on the wall, is the recessed box in the wall with the water hookups, where water hoses stick out in just the wrong places to keep this shelf from reaching the wall. Not only that, but over the dryer, the electrical socket & plug for the dryer are right where the shelf would need to reach the wall to work there.
Now, perhaps it is because I have a low-profile Fisher Paykel washer/dryer set, with control panels that only come up about 4" above the tops of the washer & dryer. If the panels were higher, with a flat top perhaps, like the one shown in the product picture, then this probably would have worked.
But even when I rested the shelf as close to the wall as I could get it, and looked at it, the angled control panels of the Fisher Paykel washer and dryer would be very difficult to access below this shelf. The product picture shows a more upright control panel, whereas mine are more reclined.
I wanted this shelf to work, I really did. But I ended up giving to my sister last weekend, and she told me two days later that it fits perfectly over her dryer, and is holding all her laundry supplies, giving her space to fold stuff right out of the dryer now.
So check behind the area you want to use it before you order it, and check the height and angle of your washer/dryer panels first.

I loved the idea - however, the product just didn't work. The shelf actually sticks out quite a ways from the way - so to use it, I would have to pull out my washer or dryer several inches into the middle of the laundry room. I did try that, but then I couldn't get the shelf to stay & hold even a few laundry detergent bottles. I returned the item. So sad.

Used to have a product like this (that I loved) that attached to the wall behind the dryer...this one fits so loosely that I couldn't use it for what I need - storing detergent, bleach, softener bottles, etc....very disappointed...
