Fits all of my inherited antique glasswareMar 12, 2010
By regina I've inherited many different kinds and types of crystal glasses (wine, water, sherbet, sherry, flutes) from many relatives in the last year and needed something sturdy, and large enough to store them all in. My biggest problem was finding a storage box that could hold my widest sherbet glasses (diameter=4 1/4") and this does. After many weeks of searching, I'll pass on what I've found.
Outside measurements (in inches): 18.5L x 14W x 8.5 H Inside measurements (in inches): 17.5L x 13W x 8H With dividers in place, actual free space (in inches): 17 1/4 L x 12 7/8 W x 8H Each compartment, except the middle two: 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" Middle two compartments: 4 1/4" x 4 1/8"
My solution (for my 4 1/4" glasses) was to turn those sherbet glasses in the middle compartments upside down to give a little more room (cardboard gave a little more on the bottom part) and that worked perfectly. The outside compartments of the 4x3 are a tiny bit more flexible than the middle ones, probably because the box's sides can give a little more but I would stick with the rule that a 4 1/4" diameter is the maximum you can put into each 4x3 compartment.
The cardboard is about 1/16" and is thick enough to keep glasses from hitting each other but also thin enough to bend or cut if you really need to or you can arrange the dividers which go into pre-cut slits to have different size compartments by removing a horizontal or vertical part.
Don't want any divider? No problem, the container is still strong and sturdy. I placed an extra large china platter and some large bowls into one without the dividers.
The boxes are sturdy enough to stack on top of one another but just remember that the plastic window isn't as protected as the cardboard side, so as long as nothing pointy pokes into it that side, you're fine.

Just what I needed.Apr 10, 2009

This item is exactly as described, comes flat and assembles without tools, just a couple of heavy-duty cardboard dividers keeps it square. Really protects stemware from dust, chips, and getting knocked around. The plastic window is a nice feature. Better than the quilted varieties.

Terrific storageApr 02, 2009

These Whitney Design storage boxes are great - construction is sturdy (they'll probably last a lifetime), and they look very tidy and organized stacked up on my closet's wire shelves. (I removed the separating partitions and used the boxes for closet storage.) The window part is best of all - no labeling/relabeling boxes, and I can tell from season to season where my different clothing types are located.

By B. Foerst I was looking for stemware storage for 12 martini glasses. This accomodated the glasses very well. This is a sturdy storage container.
